Greetings RezDowntowners!

I hope this email finds you doing well. Today is Good Friday! By the time you get this email, I will have already shared a sunrise breakfast with several men from Resurrection Downtown as a way of framing this Good Friday with the proper perspective!

Today is the day that reveals the depth of God’s love for us. In John 15, Jesus assures his disciples saying, “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

On the cross, Jesus lived into this reality to the fullest measure. Jesus humbled himself and entered into death, in order that we might find hope in resurrection life. This is one of the foundational rhythms of our faith. The pathway toward the life you’re looking for travels first through death. We remember this today.

I want to encourage you to join me tonight as we live reality of the cross at our Good Friday Tenebrae Service at 7 pm. We’ll sing traditional hymns, hear a powerful message from Pastor Anne and witness the holy shadows and darkness of Jesus’ death.

After Good Friday Services we’ll be ready celebrate Easter Sunday!!! Are you ready? All week long, Wendy and I have been extending invitations to friends, neighbors and acquaintances to join us for one of the biggest days in the life of our faith. My prayer is that you and your family are doing the same thing.

This year we’ll have two opportunities to celebrate Easter at 9 and 11 am. We have the entire Crossroads Arts Garage available for free and covered parking and we’d love for you to join us. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to worship, and we’ll plan to begin on the hour. We have gifts for every child in attendance and are so excited to have the whole family worshiping together! I can’t wait to see you on Easter.

Lastly, this Saturday (the day between Good Friday and Easter Sunday) we’re planning to host our Easter Faithwork Saturday, a day focused on Easter Celebrations with our missions partners. Please join us in our missions work by showing up at church by 9 am in order to go out into the community to put our faith to work! It is going to be a great day in downtown KC!

I am so thankful to building Christian community with you here in Kansas City. It is a privilege to be on this journey with you with the hopes of transforming the heart of our city for generations to come! Have a great Good Friday and I'll see you this weekend at the Kauffman for Easter worship, but not before worshiping with you tonight at Tenebrae!

Many blessings and God's Peace,

Scott
